Etymology: chhimtuipuiensis:Named after the local name of the Kaladan River, Chhimtuipui, its type locality; an adjective.

This species is distinguished by the following characters: with deeply embedded and sparsely set scales on the breast between the pectoral-fin bases (vs. scales between the pectoral-fin bases absent in all other species); D 8½ branched; caudal-fin rays 8+7 branched; with an axillary pelvic lobe; incomplete lateral line; unbranched dorsal-fin rays 4; branched caudal-fin rays in the lower lobe 7; bent intestine without a loop; flank with 11-14 irregular shaped vertical bars; lacking a median notch on the lower jaw (Ref. 132598). Collected from moderate fast flowing water on a substrate of sand, gravel and rocks (Ref. 132598).
