> Cyprinodontiformes (Rivulines, killifishes and live bearers) > Nothobranchiidae (African rivulines)
Etymology: Fundulopanchax: Latin, fundus = bottom; a peculiar name for a topminnow, coined for a bottom species of Atlantic coast being "the abode of the fundulus mudfish" + Greek, soma = body.
Eponymy: Claus Herluf Stenholt Clausen (1921–2002) was a California-born Danish ichthyologist and biologist. He collected in Liberia (1965). He wrote: Tropical Old World Cyprinodonts (1967). He collected the holotype. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Issue
Described as A. gardneri clauseni by Ref. 95554 solely based on the coloration of the males in the western population. This is sufficient to recognize A. g. clauseni as a valid species and not as a nomen nudum (J. Snoeks, pers. comm.).
