臀棘: 1; 臀鳍软条: 6. Distinguished by the following characteristics: slender-bodied; short vertical dark bars on the side of the body; evenly spaced rows of orange to brown spots above and below row of vertical dark bars; blue to black W-shaped spot above pectoral fin base and several oblique dark brown lines crossing side of head; first dorsal fin pointed, reddish with dense black oval spot posteriorly; second dorsal rays and anal rays I,6; pectoral rays 16-17; longitudinal scales 23-25; TRB 7-8 1/2; predorsal scales 6-8; circumpeduncular scales 12 (Ref. 84480).
Inhabits rivers and creeks (Ref. 84480). Found in shallow (less than 1 m) creeks with gravel, rubble, boulder and sand substrates, with rapids and pools (Ref. 84480).
