Etymology: Didymothallus: Name from Greek 'didymos' for double or twofold and 'thallus' for branch in plants, referring to the two supporters of nearly equal length in the single pair of pseudoclaspers; pruvosti: Named for Patrice Pruvost, MNHN, Paris.

Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 70 - 73; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 52 - 58; Ryggkotor: 43 - 45. This species is distinct with the following characters: D 70-73, A 52-58, D/A 20-22, V in D 1.9; vertebrae 12+31-33=43-45, no cirri on occiput; a single (outer) pseudoclasper wing shaped with 2 supporters, the anterior one slightly longer and bent backward while the posterior is straight, with a club-like expanded tip; cheek with 5-6 scale rows on upper part, 3-5 rows on lower part; otolith possess a sharply pointed anterior tip and a moderately pronounced post-dorsal angle, with undivided short sulcus, its centre anteriorly of the centre of the otolith, inclined 5°-10°, otolith length to height is 2.2-2.3, otolith length to sulcus length is 2.6 (Ref. 76869).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
This species is associated with crevices of silty coralline rock and the presence of live corals is not essential (Ref. 76869).
