Teleostei > Beloniformes (Needle fishes) > Exocoetidae (Flyingfishes)
Etymology: Prognichthys: Taken from Progne, name of Philomela´s sister, transformed into a swallow in the Greek mithology + Greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Not a true eponym, Progne (sometimes Procne – see above) was metamorphosed into a swallow. Pliny likened flyingfish to the swallow, and the genus name can be translated as ‘swallow-fish’. Glafira Nikiforovna ‘Tanya’ Pokhil’skaya worked in the Department of Nekton and the Laboratory of Oceanic Ichthyofauna (Russian Academy of Sciences) (1948–1990). Parin has used her ‘high-quality’ (translation) illustrations in many of his papers. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (参考文献 82804):  PD50 = 0.5156   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00631 (0.00288 - 0.01384), b=3.05 (2.85 - 3.25), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
营养阶层 (参考文献 69278):  3.4   ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
回复力 (参考文献 120179):  高度, 族群倍增时间少于 15个月 (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (15 of 100). 🛈
