Europe: Portugal from Limia to Tornada drainages (south of Douro) (Ref. 59043). Reported from Iberian Peninsula, Spain (Ref. 119049).

Diagnosed from its congeners by the possession of the following characters: lateral line usually with 30-38 + 2-3 scales; 3-4 (usually 3) scale rows between lateral line and pelvic fin origin; 11-12 circumpeduncular scale rows; eye diameter smaller than snout length; snout rounded, obtuse; and ventral profile of head with a marked angle at articulation of lower jaw (Ref. 59043).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
