Etymology: Megalamphodus: Greek, megas, megalos = great + Greek, amphi = in both sides + Greek, odous = teeth (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Kyle Swegles (d: c.1925) was a distributor of tropical fish and owner of the Rainbow Aquarium, Chicago. He collected the type series in the upper Rio Orinoco basin, Colombia. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
