Etymology: Pseudomugil: Greek, pseudes = false + Latin, mugil, -is = grey mullet (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: John Paska was a fisheries technician for the Papua New Guinea Ministry of Fisheries. He was honoured for the assistance he gave Gery Allen during his visits there, and was a co-collector of the type specimen. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
