Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal soft rays (total): 62-64; Anal soft rays: 50 - 52; Vertebrae: 40 - 41. This species is characterized by the following: the frontal crest is smooth; no scales on abdomen; vertebral count 11+29 or 30; total vertebrae 40-41; longitudinal scale rows 60-65 (x = 63); compared to its 2 congeners, this species has the greatest ratio between: pelvic-fin length (PEL) and SL (0.082-0.084, x = 0.083), and PEL and head length (HL) (0.500-0.524, x = 0.512), and the least ratio between: pectoral-fin length and SL (0.030-0.036, x = 0.033), pectoral-fin length and HL (0.177-0.215, x = 0.196), pectoral-fin length and pelvic-fin length (PEL) (0.354-0.430, x = 0.392), head width and SL (0.062-0.064, x = 0.063), body depth and SL (0.105-0.107, x = 0.106), predorsal length and SL (0.187-0.199, x = 0.193), prepelvic length and SL (0.150-0.161, x = 0.156), and preanal length and SL (0.326-0.341, x = 0.333), however, these ratios may change significantly as more specimens of this species are examined and measured (Ref. 75632).
