Africa: drainages of the Logone, Chari, Mayo Kebbi and possibly upper Benue in northern Cameroon, western Central African Republic and southeastern Chad; possibly also in eastern Nigeria (Ref. 47461).

Occurs in brooks and swamps in the open and humid grassland savanna on the highlands (Ref. 3788). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
