This species is distinguished by the following characters: presence of a well-defined, relatively narrow dark midlateral stripe on body, from immediately behind the opercular opening to the tip of middle caudal-fin rays; with a humeral spot; a longitudinal black stripe immediately behind the opercle; anal-fin rays 14-17; horizontal scale rows around caudal peduncle 14; non-symphyseal teeth of the premaxillary inner row with 7-9 cusps; in life with yellow citrus colouration and a vivid colored red eye (Ref. 131186).
