Etymology: Trichomycterus: Greek, thrix = hair + Greek, mykter, -eros = nose (Ref. 45335); spectrum: 'spectrum', i.e., refers to its spectral-like appearance, eyeless condition and whitish color. Also infers to the dark and gloomy habitat (Ref. 128935).
