If the subspecies T. simonis intermedia is reconized as valid, then it is extinct in IUCN 2024-1. Tristramella magdelenae, considered again as a valid specis since 2023, is also extinct in IUCN 2024-1.

Feeds on phytoplankton, higher plants and, to a lesser extent, zooplankton. Spawning season is from March to August and each specimen spawns at least 2-3 times during that period (Ref. 13609).
