This species is distinguished by the following characters: 52-59 pored lateral-line scales; 5.5 scale rows above lateral line; 16 circumpeduncular scales; blackish spot on pectoral fin base absent; only the tip of dorsal fin is usually blackish; usually chest is keeled, but sometimes only weakly or not at all; small eye with diameter 11.6-12.8% SL, 39.4-42.3% HL; very deep body 46.1-53.4% SL (Ref. 95675).
