Dorsal spines (total): 7 - 9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8 - 10; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 10 - 11; Vertebrae: 38 - 41. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: premaxillary ascending process is long and somewhat narrow, widest point at proximal half; posterior part of maxilla almost straight, not slanting down, with angular upper posterior corner; palatines toothless; anus positioned slightly anterior to pelvic-fin tip (including holotype) or just at the tip (rarely); head length 28-31% SL; upper jaw length 10-11% SL; eye diameter 11-12% SL; postorbital length of head 10-12% SL; distance from snout to pectoral fin tip 45-49% SL; midlateral band is almost straight (Ref. 92295).
