Μαλακές ραχιαίες ακτίνες (συνολικά) : 11; Μαλακές εδρικές ακτίνες: 8; Σπόνδυλοι: 44. Distinguished from its very similar species, Triplophya leptosoma, by having the following characters: very wide trunk (the maximum thickness significantly exceeds the maximum depth); comparatively deeper body, caudal peduncle and dorsal fin; more posterior position of the beginning of the dorsal fin; larger ventroanal distance (16.4% SL); anus, settles out of the beginning of the anal fin to more than the orbit diameter (Ref. 57946).
