Etymology: Oreoglanis: Greek, oreos = mountain+Greek, glanis = Latin, aurum = gold + Greek, glanis = a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook; a cat fish (Ref. 45335); macronemus: Derived from the Greek makros, meaning long, and nema, meaning thread, in reference to the long nasal barbels of this species.

Vertebrae: 39 - 40. A member of the Oreoglanis delacouri species group with lower lip lacking a median notch and with prominent projections along the posterior margin as well as a lunate caudal fin with extended principal rays. Differs from its congeners of the O. delacouri species group in having a short caudal peduncle (15.6-17.3% SL) and very long nasal barbels (35.4-41.7% HL); deep caudal peduncle (4.2-4.9% SL) and more vertebrate (39-40) (Ref. 55772).
