Etymology: Pseudoplesiops: Greek, pseudes = false + Greek, plesios = near (Ref. 45335); wassi: Named for R.C. Wass, who first reported on the species, in recognition of his important contribution to our knowledge of South-West Pacfic fishes (Ref. 50540).
