Dorsal spines (total): 8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 8; Vertebrae: 25. Anterior end of isthmus without fleshy papillae. Gill membranes not broadly united to isthmus (Ref. 39602). Frontal and parietal bones strongly ossified. Preorbital spines absent. Anterior dorsal-fin spines extremely short. Fin rays unbranched. Scales absent except on the lateral line; 10 tubed scales, posteriormost on base of caudal fin; without spinous projections. Pelvic fin membrane adnate to body, fused to membrane of opposite side. Pectoral fin lacking a detached ray (Ref. 35988).
