Etymology: Hoplostethus: Greek, hoplon = weapon + Greek, stetho, stethion = brest; literal = to prick a little breast (Ref. 45335); vniro: Named in honor of the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO).
Eponymy: VNIRO stand for the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography. Kotlyar worked there for 20 years and was a member of the expedition that collected the holotype. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
