Etymology: Pseudophoxinus: Greek, pseudes = false + Greek, phoxinos = a certain river fish (Ref. 45335)battalgilae: Named for F. Battalgil, a Turkish ichthyologist, for her considerable contribution to the knowledge of Turkish freshwater fishes.

Taggstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 3; Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 8; Taggstrålar i analfenan: 3; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 9; Ryggkotor: 37 - 38. Distinguished from other members of the genus Pseudophoxinus by the following characters: complete lateral line with 53-61 pored scales; dorsal fin rays III 8, anal fin rays III 9; gill rakers 11-14; a preopercular-mandibular cephalic sensory canal interrupted between the lower jaw and preoperculum; a considerably laterally compressed body with a partly scaleless keel on the belly (Ref. 33550).
