Africa: endemic to Lake Tanganyika, found in the northern part of the lake, in Burundi and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ref. 27630, 46829).

Occurs on mixed sand and rock bottoms; depth range 30-68 m (Ref. 27630). Stomach contents inventories suggest that it feeds on detritus as well as on plankton (Ref. 46829).
