Etymology: Careproctus: Greek, kara = face + Greek, proktos = anus (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Dr Gerhard Richardovich Meder (d: 1865) was a Russian naval physician aboard the hydrographical vessel ‘Okhotsk’ (1914–1916). The collecting of marine specimens was a duty of the medical staff which is how his name became associated with the fish. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
