Etymology: Cetopsidium: From Cetopsis, the first genus proposed in subfamily Cetopsinae, and 'idium' meaning diminutive, referring to the relatively small body sizes of the members of the genus.
Eponymy: José Moreno, according to the etymology “…has collected fishes for science for over 20 years.” Beyond assuming that he did his collecting in and around the Orinoco River and basin, we have been unable to progress further. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
