Asia: endemic to the Jordan River drainage basin, where it is widely distributed in lakes and most tributaries. In the coastal plain of Palestine it occurs only in the Nahr al-Muqatta (Qishon River).

পৃষ্ঠীয় কাঁটা (মোট ): 0; পৃষ্ঠীয় নরম পাখনা দন্ড (মোট ): 10; পায়ূ কাঁটা 0; পায়ূর নরম পাখনা্তুন্ড: 12 - 16. Elongate and compressed body. Mouth sub terminal, its cleft reaching to below the nostrils. Pharyngeal teeth 5-5, smooth and hooked.
Found near the bottom of lakes, ponds and streams of slow-flowing water. Spawning season: January to April.
