Etymology: Talamancaheros: Named for the Talamanca mountains of lower Central America, in combination with the old cichlid genus name Heros (meaning hero); to be understood as the hero of the Talamanca mountains.
Eponymy: Dr Karl Theodor Ernst von Siebold (1804–1885) studied at Universität Berlin and Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, becoming a physician who practised in East Prussia (1831– 1834) at Heilsberg (Lidzbark Warmiński, Poland) and Königsberg (Kaliningrad [...] (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Issue
Redescription by Bussing (1975), as Cichlasoma sieboldii. Reviewed by Bussing (1998: 372), as Theraps sieboldii, with key, diagnosis, geographical distribution, and figures. Molecular analysis suggests that T. sieboldii is not closely related to T. tuba (Martin & Bermingham, 1998), but the species is maintained in Tomocichla pending a more general revision of heroin cichlids.

Inhabits moderate to fast flowing waters. Juveniles feed primarily upon aquatic insects while adults feed on vegetable matter such as aufwuchs and algae. Produces about 200-300 fry (Ref. 7335).
