Africa: Endemic to Lake Malawi where it is widely distributed.

Most frequently seen over sand but may also occur in the intermediate sand-rock habitat (Ref. 5595). Usually collected from trawl hauls in shallower stations. Feeds on small fish, gastropods, and lamellibranch mollusks (Ref. 267).
