Like all species of the genus, it is abundant in small, slow-flowing, shallow creeks with rocky-silty bottom. Occurs together with Guianacar owroewefi, Pyrrhulina filamentosa, Cyphocharax spilurus, Hemigrammus guyanensis and Heptapterus longior. Feeds on small crustaceans and insect larvae.
