Etymology: Marcusenius: Becasue of J. Marcusen, author of "Zur Phauna des Schwarzen Meeres", 1867; ichthyologist.
Eponymy: Dr Johann Andreas Marcusen (1817–1894) was a Latvian of German descent who was a physician, ichthyologist and zoologist. [...] James Abram Garfield Rehn (1881–1965) was an American entomologist who served as zoologist on the George Vanderbilt African Expedition (1934). Fowler mis-spelt his surname in the binomial – quite an achievement for a 4–letter name! (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Considered to most likely be a junior synonym of Marcusenius victoriae according to Ref. 52331 (see also Ref. 4903), but this needs to be confirmed.
