Etymology: Schindleria: Named for ichthyologist Otto Schindler, 1906-1959 (Prof. Dr. Konrad Schindler, pers. comm Dec. 2017)parva: Name from Latin 'parva' meaning small; referring to the small body size; an adjective, feminine.

Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 9 - 10; Rayons mous anaux: 7 - 9. This species is distinguished from all its congeners by the following: with the lowest number of dorsal-fin rays 9-10 (vs. 13-21 in congeners), and with the lowest number of anal-fin rays 7-9 (vs. 10-18 other species); with small premaxillary teeth; gas bladder is not prominent; females bear a series of 30 rectangular eggs in a single row (Ref. 129304).
