Etymology: Cryptopsilotris: Name formed from ‘Psilotris’, the genus of the type species was formerly classified under, and the root ‘crypto-’, which is taken from the Greek ‘kruptos’ meaning hidden; referring to the cryptic coloration of the type species.

Inhabits sandy bottoms in coral-reef habitats (Ref. 92840).
