Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal soft rays (total): 12; Anal soft rays: 8. Schistura epixenos can be diagnosed from its congeners in the Xe Bangfai and adjacent drainages in central and southern Laos by the following combination of characters: pale brown body with 13-17 dark brown bars, about as wide as interspaces, reaching downwards to the level of pectoral-fin base; processus dentiformis narrow, pointed; lateral line complete; caudal peduncle depth 1.3-1.5 times in its length; body slender (13.7-15.1 % SL); scales present in predorsal area; pelvic fin not reaching anus; and origin of pelvic fin below origin of dorsal fin (Ref. 117206).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Occurs in stream characterized by forest cover, very narrow, dense cover of branches, bamboos and shrubs. The stream is shallow with depth of 1-30 cm and bottom covered by thick mud (probably due to the track construction and recent agricultural work), at places with thick layers of leaf litter (Ref. 117206).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00692 (0.00311 - 0.01538), b=3.02 (2.85 - 3.19), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.0   ±0.3 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
