Morphology | Morphometrics
soft rays: 10;
Vertebrae: 27. The slender, slightly compressed body is probably mainly, if not entirely, red in life; 5 rows of oblique scales on cheek; body slender, the depth 3.1 in SL; head length (HL) 2.55 in SL; very large eye, 2.6 in HL; very narrow suborbital shelf; anterior end of the nasal bone is rounded; moderately large nasal fossa spineless; surface or medial edge of the nasal bone spineless; third dorsal spine longest, 2.2 in HL; spinous and soft portions of dorsal fin completely separated; third anal spine 1.35 in HL; pointed caudal fin lobes (Ref. 27370).
The species may penetrate deeper water (suggested by the large eyes); the 49 m depth could be near the upper limit of its depth range (Ref. 27370).
