Etymology: Neoconger: Name from the Latin neo, new, and Conger, a genus of eels. Apparently referring to a resemblance to the Congridae; hygomi: Named after Vilhelm Hygom, a Danish ship captain who collected oceanographic material for the Zoological Museum in Copenhagen.
