Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Diagnosed from congeners in Balkan Peninsula by having straight mouth, lower lip with cornified sheath, 57-66 scales on lateral line, ½8-9/1/5-6 scales in transverse row between dorsal and pelvic origins, 8½ branched dorsal rays, 9½ branched anal rays and 28-38 gill rakers (Ref. 59043).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Occurs in lowland water courses (Ref. 26100). Inhabits from rivers to brooks, over stone to rock bottom with fast to strong current. Moves to tributaries to spawn in rapids and riffles among stones (Ref. 59043). Threatened due to pollution and water abstraction (Ref. 26100).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00832 (0.00446 - 0.01551), b=3.09 (2.93 - 3.25), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this species & (Sub)family-body (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  2.4   ±0.1 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Low, minimum population doubling time 4.5 - 14 years (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low to moderate vulnerability (33 of 100).
