Etymology: Bujurquina: A name created by Kullander, taken from a native Peruvian word for these cichlids, "bujurqui" or "bufurque"; 1983-1986; eurhinus: Named derived from the Greek eu, well or big, and rhinos, snout, referring to the prominence of the snout due to the well-developed lips.
