Etymology: Harriotta: [an]a- (L.), belonging to: per Goode & Bean (1896), in honor of Thomas Harriott (ca. 1560?1621), English astronomer, mathematician, ethnographer and translator, who published the first English work on American natural history (1588). (See ETYFish).

North Atlantic: west coast of Africa off Cabo Barbas, Spanish Sahara and the Canary Islands; off New York, USA and southern outlet of Davis Strait, Canada. Indian Ocean: submarine seamounts in 1,400-1,730 m (Ref. 6871) and off St Helens, Tasmania (Australia) in 1,480-1,700 m (Ref. 6871). Southwest Pacific: New Zealand (Ref. 26346).
