Etymology: Lycenchelys: Greek, lykos = wolf + Greek, enchelys, -yos = eel (Ref. 45335); hexapora: Name 'hexapora' from the Greek word 'éxi' and Latin word 'porus', meaning pore, in reference to the unusual number of postorbital pores of the new species.

This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: vertebrae 21+68=89; mouth wide, posterior edge of maxilla behind eye; opercular flap and labial lobe well-developed; absence of an oral valve; predorsal length less than head length; suborbital pores 7 (5+2); postorbital pores 6; presence of an interorbital pore; presence of occipital pores; lateral line ventral, distinct; pelvic-fin base anterior to isthmus; pectoral-fin rays exserted; scales absent on pectoral fin and its base; dorsal fin origin associated with vertebrae 2; pelvic fin rays 3; total gill rakers 8; and absence of a pyloric caeca, stomach black (Ref. 138442).
