Etymology: Psalidodon: Greek, psalis, -idos = scissors + Greek, odous = teeth (Ref. 45335); pessalii: Name 'pessalii' in honor of ichthyologist Tiago Casarim Pessali for his contributions to the knowledge of the Brazilian freshwater fishes in the coastal drainages of eastern Brazil in the State of Minas Gerais.
