Morphology | Morphometrics
A species in the Lophiodes mutilus species group characterized by the presence of many diffuse black spots on the dorsal surface of head and body; an extremely long third dorsal-fin spine (71·9–7·2% LS), extending to the anterior third of caudal fin; a relatively wide and deep head [HW = 61·6–67·5% LH, head depth (HD) = 73·3–78·9% LH]; a relatively long snout (63·2–68·5% LH); a relatively broad interorbital space (distance between the last frontal spines, IF = 47·4–56·0% LH); a relatively short fifth dorsal-fin spine (11·4–16·5% LS); and 17–18 pectoral-fin rays (Ref. 88694).
