Diagnosed from congeners in western Europe by having the following characters: keel from nape to dorsal origin; snout projecting, pointed, tip rounded; upper jaw projecting; dorsal profile of head and body not continuously rounded, with distinct hump; snout length 32-35% HL; and lateral line with 47-52 + 2-3 scales (Ref. 59043).
Inhabits streams, sectors with current, clear, and cool water, in deep pool. Reaches up to about 28 cm SL (Ref. 59043).
