Diagnosed from other prealpine charrs by the following combination of characters: mouth subinferior; snout blunt; 19-25 gill rakers; flank yellowish to silvery, sometimes with faint pale spots; eye diameter 0.8-1.4 times in interorbital; head depth at eye 9.4-11.4% SL; body depth at anal-fin origin 10.6-14.7% SL (Ref. 56679). Also distinguished from congeners in central Europe by its fin hyaline to whitish, with white margins in mature males (Ref. 59043).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
Inhabits deep water, below 80 m. Spawns in all seasons with a peak in September and October (Ref. 59043).
