Etymology: Nemipterus: Greek, nema, -atos = filament + Greek, pteron = wing, fin (Ref. 45335). More on author: Ogilby.
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Marine; demersal; non-migratory; depth range 24 - 220 m (Ref. 9785), usually - m (Ref. ). Tropical; 0°C - ; 21°S - 35°S, 79°W - 73°W (Ref. 3810)

Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 18.5 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 3810); common length : 14.0 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 3810)
soft rays: 7. Suborbital spine absent. Preopercle with 3 transverse scale rows. Pectoral and pelvic fins not reaching to level of origin of anal fin. Upper lobe of caudal fin produced into a long trailing filament. First dorsal spine short. A line drawn upwards from posterior edge of the suborbital reaching the dorsal profile at or behind origin of dorsal fin. Axillary scale present.
