Issue on validity of subspecies: subspecies considered as valid in FB, elevated to species rank as Diplodus omanensis Bauchot & Bianchi, 1984 in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Mar. 2011: Ref. 86697). Please send references, or more studies are needed.

Dorsal spines (total): 11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 10 - 11. Pectoral fins reaching to above third anal spine; body silvery with four broad black bars; two short narrow black bars ventrally in the first silver interspace on body and one on second; head with a black bar through eye; snout partly yellow (Ref. 11441).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
Occurs inshore, over rocky bottom.
