Marine; brackish; demersal; depth range 18 - 170 m (Ref. 26268), usually 20 - 60 m (Ref. 26268). Subtropical; 37°N - 20°N, 90°W - 55°W (Ref. 26268)
Western Atlantic: North Carolina to Palm Beach in Florida, USA; also Gulf Coast of Florida. Also recorded from Nova Scotia, Canada (Ref. 26268) and French Guiana (Ref. 27233).

Inhabits bays and shallow coastal waters. Collected primarily on live-bottom habitats. Found in estuarine rivers (Ref. 27233).
