Etymology: Devario: Bangla/Bengali:‘debari’, local name for these fishes; also meaning ‘brother in law’ (Ref. 2031).
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Freshwater; benthopelagic. Subtropical
Asia: Irrawaddy drainage in Yunnan, China.

Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 5.1 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 37787)
Morphology | Morphometrics
soft rays: 12 - 14;
Vertebrae: 33 - 36. Without lateral line, without infraorbital process; with mostly 7 branched dorsal fin rays and 10 branched anal fin rays. Can be distinguished from other Danio species by the following combination of characters: narrow, indistinct dark vertical bars anteriorly on the sides, followed by a wide, indistinct, tapering horizontal stripe to the end of the caudal peduncle; barbels absent.
Occurs in high concentrations in large rivers, tributaries and ditches in clean, turbid or even polluted water over bedrock or gravel, sand, mud substrates. Fish collected from late March to the middle of April 1995 appeared to be sexually mature (Ref. 36341).
