Dorsal soft rays (total): 11 - 13; Anal soft rays: 8. No pores on head; no lateral line; usually 9 1/2 branched dorsal rays; color pattern consisting of minute dark spots, often fused to form irregularly shaped blotches; body depth 25-28% SL; body scaled in front of dorsal fin; 14 branched caudal rays (Ref. 12040).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Inhabits small stream with moderate flowing water. Moves slowly in shoals on the bottom. Feeds on filamentous algae and insects.
