Etymology: Isthmoheros: Name from combination of ‘ isthmos’ meaning narrow passage or neck of land, with the old cichlid genus name Heros (meaning hero); referring to the isthmian hero, as it is the only eastern Isthmian genus that has its sister-genus on the opposite side of the Isthmus in western Panamá-Costa Rica.
