(Snappers) > Lutjaninae
Etymology: Lutjanus: Malay, ikan lutjan, name of a fish.
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Marine; demersal; depth range 70 - 100 m. Tropical; 22°N - 20°S, 49°E - 94°E (Ref. 55)
Indian Ocean: known only from Madagascar, Sri Lanka, and the Bay of Bengal, but probably widespread in the tropical region. This species has been frequently confused with other large red snappers such as Lutjanus malabaricus and Lutjanus sanguineus.
