Has 11-12 predorsal scale rows; scale margins highlighted by reticulated melanin pattern; caudal fin red with black tips of caudal lobes (Ref. 12693).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Inhabits forest creeks, usually over sandy substrate (Ref. 56749). Occurs near the surface of streams. Not a common species, with apparently localized populations. Feeds mainly on exogenous insects. Rarely seen in markets, but common in the aquarium trade (Ref. 12693).
